The Galesburg Community Chorus will begin rehearsals for its spring concerts on Monday, January 19 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Prairie St., in Galesburg. All are welcome to join, and no auditions are necessary. Dues are $10 a semester, and music fees are $5 a semester. Students are not required to pay dues.
The spring concerts will feature Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem and will be held Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg and Sunday, April 26 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA.
The Chorus will combine for the first time with the professional choir Nova Singers for the performances. Both choral groups are celebrating milestone anniversaries this season: 40 years for Nova Singers and Galesburg Community Chorus is currently celebrating its 80th anniversary. Tim Pahel, Director of the Chorus, says “we are thrilled to be singing this beautiful music by Duruflé combined with the excellent Nova Singers. Both groups have been cornerstones of the choral music scene in our community for decades, and it’s going to be so exciting to hear them together for the first time.”
The Chorus’ sponsors for the concert include Blick Art Materials, the Galesburg Community Foundation, and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
