A former Monmouth resident, who devoted forty years to distinguished service in the United States Air Force, Major General Philip Killey has passed away. Monmouth Mayor Rod Davies shares Major General Killey was a very decorated officer throughout his service to the United States:
“Former Monmouth resident Major General Philip Killey was born in Monmouth; he was 84 years old. He passed away in Scottsdale Arizona. He served for 40 years in the United States Air Force. He served from 1963 until 2003.”
“In 1987, General Killey was appointed Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard and a year later was promoted to Major General, serving one of the highest leadership positions within the National Guard. In 1994, Major General Killey was named Commander of First Air Force and the Continental United States North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD. He became the first National Guard officer to hold that very prestigious role. He was a very decorated officer.”
