AJ Cox is in line to be the next Sheriff of Warren County. Voter turnout was just over 26 percent and with 36 of the 37 precincts reporting Cox won the Republican nomination for sheriff. Current Sheriff Martin Edwards is retiring and there were four candidates, all Republicans, running for the position. In the unofficial numbers with one precinct not posted, plus mail-in votes not counted, Cox received 913 votes. Jack Baskett picked up 595 votes, Jason Horner garnered 487 votes and Steve Thompson received 352 votes. No Democrat filed for the sheriff’s position, so unless there is an independent candidate that runs in November, Cox would run unopposed.
