Weather in the Midwest can be unpredictable. It is important to stay informed and be prepared for when severe weather strikes. Warren County 911 Coordinator Ken Helms explains a free app for your cell phone to receive emergency alerts:
“The application is called CodeRED Public Alerts. This is available on the iPhone or Google App Stores. This allows us to send out messages directly to your phone when there is severe weather or if there are other public safety type emergencies,” says Helms.
“We recommend people go online and download the CodeRED Public Alerts app. It is free of charge. You just enter in your username and your email account, give it a password, and it is good to go. You never really have to think about it again. A benefit with the app too is that as you move around, if you like to travel, the app will be able to sense your location,” Helms adds.
Additionally, Helms informs the policy in Warren County for activating sirens to alert residents happens when there is wind above 70 miles per hour or a tornado that has been actively spotted through radar or spotters on the ground.
