Launched back in December, the Feline Trap-Neuter-Release Program in Warren County, in partnership with Western Illinois Animal Rescue, Warren County Animal Control, and local veterinary offices has shown success, informs Board Member John Kennedy:
“We have had a lot of activity and a lot of inquiries. WIAR is funding and controlling the program; by that I mean directly all the moving parts. The process begins with WIAR, a phone call, there is an online application process on our website. People need to contact us first and we will issue approvals,” says Kennedy.
“We work with all the Warren County veterinarians, including Media and Stronghurst. We pay the costs. We have a reimbursement agreement in place with the County to help with the costs if they are Warren County cats. The public’s role is they know where the cats are, they trap them, make arrangements with the vet, convey the animal to the vet, the vet treats them, and that member of the public returns them back where they found them,” Kennedy adds.
To date, Kennedy reports around $2,100 has been paid in vet expenses for this program.
