On Monday, April 6th at 5:13 PM, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 407 East Girard Avenue. Ladder 40 and Engine 23 responded to the scene and found a 1 ½ story home with smoke showing from the exterior. Ladder 40 arrived on scene and Assistant Chief Carson upgraded the alarm to a Working Still alerting off-duty firefighters, the Fire Chief, and an ambulance to respond. The initial crew entered the home with an 1 ¾ inch attack line and found fire on the first floor. The fire was darkened down within minutes of arrival while a primary search was completed. Crews arriving from off-duty secured water supply and also completed a secondary search of the home.

The home did sustain major smoke and heat damage during the fire and is currently uninhabitable. The residents were not home at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries. Unfortunately, two pets did perish during the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Monmouth Fire Department Investigators. Other agencies assisting at the scene were the Monmouth Police Department, Warren County Dispatch Center, Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Woodard & Curran (Water Dept), Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service, 1-800-BOARDUP, and Ameren Illinois.
