The United Red Storm softball team had an up-and-down week, starting with a huge high last Tuesday, rallying for six runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off against crosstown rival Monmouth-Roseville, 12-11.
United carried that momentum into Wednesday, pummeling a young Peoria team 21-6. But the rest of the week didn’t go their way, as the Red Storm fell to Annawan-Wethersfield 12-2, then dropped two games on Saturday, 12-2 to Auburn and 16-1 to Pontiac.
United now sits at 5-16, and Head Coach Mike Maguire says he feels the momentum starting to shift.
The Red Storm will have four chances to build on that this week, starting with a home game against West Prairie tonight. Followed by a road trip Thursday to take on Bureau Valley, then wrap up the week with a conference doubleheader at home against ROWVA-Williamsfield.
