The first date of construction for the new Warren County Law Enforcement Center is June 1st. Sheriff Martin Edwards explains the layout of the facility:
“Determination was made to go with a 60-bed facility. First of all, it is not 60 cells, it is 60 beds, now you are talking about 30 cells and those are further divided into pods. There are so many variable classifications that have to be observed, which is mandated by the state. Of course, obviously, you have to divide males and females, you sentences are supposed to be sequestered separately from the unsentenced felons versus misdemeanors, then you have people that might have behavioral health problems, or mental health problems; they have to be separated. You have to have the ability to manage your population safely and properly and make sure you’re observing all these different requirements the state lays down.”
Sheriff Edwards informs the Warren County Sheriff’s Office is hiring correctional officers, with pay starting at $19.92 an hour, individual health coverage, paid vacation, sick days, and retirement benefits.
