Structure Fire Under Investigation in Galesburg

At approximately 2:41 p.m. on May 12, 2026, the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a reported rubbish fire near the rear of a residence located at 578 Holton St.

Upon arrival, crews from the Brooks and Central Fire Stations discovered the fire had extended into the structure. Firefighters encountered flames on three sides of the building, with active fire throughout the first-floor interior.

Acting Battalion Chief Kyle Harms established command and requested additional on-duty personnel to respond to the scene.

Fire crews conducted a search of the residence and confirmed that no occupants or pets were inside the structure. No injuries were reported.

An emergency callback of off-duty personnel was initiated to ensure continued emergency response coverage throughout the City during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Galesburg Fire Department investigators.
