May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. American Cancer Society Senior Development Manager Stacey Dutton shares these reminders to protect your skin when heading out in the sun:

“We want everybody prepared when they go outdoors. Just some reminders, staying in the shade as much as possible, protect your skin with clothing that covers your arms and legs, which is usually lightweight, and there is a ton of apparel that have SPF in their material. One thing that someone doesn’t always think about is our sunglasses, wearing sunglasses outside blocks the UV rays to protect your eyes and the skin around them. SPF sunscreen, definitely 30, nothing below 30. Also, wearing a wide-brimmed hat.”

For continuous protection, it is recommended to reapply sunscreen every two hours.
