The IHSA girls state finals began in Charleston on Thursday with class 1A preliminaries. The United Red Storm girls track and field team had three relay teams qualify to run on the famous blue track at Eastern Illinois University. The United 4×200 placed 24th, the 4×400 team placed 30th and 4×800 squad placed 33rd. None will advance to Saturday’s finals. The Class 2A and 3A preliminaries are Friday with the finals on Saturday.
Jared Kunkle, father of freshman Ada Kunkle, got a chance to catch up with all three relay teams after their races were completed. Jared also chatted with girls head coach Carrie Clayton, as well.
