The Warren County YMCA Special Athletes Falcons provides year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. For more than a decade, the Warren County Falcons have been led by Director Tom Glenn, who reflects back to how it all began as he transitions into retirement later this year:
“I started at the Y in 2004 as a Youth Sports Director and a Family Director, Day Camp, and the After School Program; Building Supervisors and Youth Sports and Adult Sports all for five or six years. Then I changed over to where I was just doing Adult and Youth Sports. In 2015, Cathy Betar and Sam Brooks came to me and asked me to take over the Special Olympics Athletic Director and here we are in 2026. I got to know a great group of people. As I say they are my family, it was worth every minute,” shares Glenn.
Teri Parks has been named the next Special Needs Athletic Program Director at the Warren County YMCA, effective September 1st. Parks, who has been involved with the program for 16 years as her daughter is active in eleven sports, is excited to continue the advancement of the program on and off the field:
“I think the thing I am looking forward to the most is building on the impact of inclusion in our community. With so many athletes, we have had a really good, core group for the 12 years that Tom has been in charge. I know that I can’t do everything that Tom did, so I know that we are going to need help from volunteers. Also, I would like to see us get out in the community more; let people get to know us,” Parks says.
Nearly 80 local athletes participate in competitions with the Warren County Falcons.
