The Fourth of July is coming up, which means a time for celebration, but also a time to prioritize safety. Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat reminds residents that fireworks are illegal in Warren County, outside of novelty items like caps and sparklers.

“I always preface this conversation with you that fireworks are illegal. The only fireworks that you’re supposed to legally use are the novelty fireworks, the caps and sparklers and things like that. For those that do venture out and go buy some of the fireworks outside of the state and bring them back in, we just want people to be extra careful. Some safety tips for that are never let the kids have these fireworks. Also do it in a safe area away from structures, other houses, and things like that. And try to refrain from involving alcohol in the fireworks display.”

Chief Rexroat also shares the annual Monmouth fireworks show will take place Friday, July 3rd at Citizens Lake.
