Fall sports practices are getting closer, and athletes are starting to get back into shape for the fall season.
Advanced Rehab and Sports Medicine Clinic Manager Doug Price says conditioning is only one part of getting the body ready.
“When I talk about the body, I usually say there are three things the body needs. It needs conditioning. So that’s what you’re talking about: ‘Hey, I want to get in better shape. I want to do some conditioning,’ and that’s running, cycling, walking, whatever. That’s great. But then we leave off the other two components. ‘I should probably be doing some flexibility and stretching. I should probably be doing some strengthening as well.’ The body needs those three aspects. If you’re only doing one of those aspects, then it’s going to cause a problem at some point in time.”
Price says athletes dealing with pain for more than two weeks without improvement should consider getting it checked out.
