At Monday’s Monmouth City Council meeting, a public hearing was held to discuss the East Side Tax Increment Financing District for land located near North 12th Street to also become annexed into the City for single-family, owner-occupied homes to be constructed. Mayor Rod Davies provides the latest:
“We have to get the TIF approved and once we do that we will work with our design engineering folks Hutchinson Engineering to kind of get the general layout, look at the numbers with our TIF consultant, and talk with some local realtors to see if we want 80 foot wide lots or 100 foot wide lots and how many building sites that leaves us with. We are going to extend the City’s water and sewer in there and that is going to be very important, so that we have those utilities and neighbors don’t have to be concerned about leaching septic fields,” says Mayor Davies.
“There is only one annexation and that is the development site itself and that is with the full cooperation of the owner of the property. Also, being in the City, it gets 24/7 police and fire protection. We want the lot purchaser to put a home there, that is the whole goal and the key to this. You will have two years to build your home. If not, the City will buy it back for what you paid for it and get it into the hands of someone that is ready to build,” Mayor Davies adds.
