The Midwest Conference will have a new look this year, with Luther College officially joining the conference.
The Norse come over from the American Rivers Conference, and Monmouth College Sports Information Director Nathan Baliva says they bring several strong programs with them.
“They went to the NCAA Tournament in baseball this year with a fantastic group. They had a lot of seniors and fifth-year guys, and they even got in as an at-large bid. That’s how good they were. They’re going to contend with Grinnell in tennis. They’ve been really good at tennis in the ARC the last couple of years. They’re really good at swimming and soccer as well. Volleyball has been very competitive with us. The last couple of times we’ve played, it’s gone five sets. We’ve won one, and they’ve won one. Another thing to keep in mind is that in those sports, six teams will now make the conference tournament instead of four.”
The first matchup between Monmouth and Luther will come September 13th, when the Scots women’s tennis team travels to Decorah, Iowa, to take on the Norse.
