Mr. Philip C. Gottenborg, 73, passed away peacefully at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born on June 9, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Phil was the son of Richard E. and Lois I. (Carter) Gottenborg Sr. He grew up with a strong work ethic and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1971. Throughout his career, Phil worked for several well-known furniture stores in Galesburg, including Radke’s Furniture and Rheinschmidt Furniture Store, where he was appreciated for his friendly personality and dedication to serving customers.

Phil’s greatest passions were vintage automobiles and antiques. He had an eye for finding hidden treasures and enjoyed the stories behind every unique piece he discovered. For more than 20 years, he traveled extensively as an antique dealer, meeting people from all walks of life and building lasting friendships through his shared love of history and collectibles. A true enthusiast of classic automobiles, Phil bought, restored, sold, and traded more than 30 vintage hot rods throughout his lifetime. Whether attending car shows, searching for the next special find, or talking with fellow collectors, he found genuine joy in the hobby he loved.

Those who knew Phil will remember his appreciation for craftsmanship and history, and his enthusiasm for sharing stories about the many antiques and classic cars that crossed his path. He enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, the excitement of a good trade, and the friendships that developed along the way.

Phil is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Madisyn (Garrett Warren) Gottenborg of Los Angeles, California; his brother, Richard E. (Lorraine) Gottenborg Jr. of Lake Bracken; his sister, Lynn (Jim) Shipp of Altona, Illinois; his three grandchildren, Gavin Warren, Jaidyn Bauchman, and Trinity Warren; and his niece, Kasey Shipp-Kramer. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service, Galesburg Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
