Discovering a bat in your bedroom can be alarming, but Warren County Health Department Administrator Jenna Link says knowing what to do next is important:

“If you wake up to a bat in your bedroom, because you can’t always feel a bat bite and you can’t always see marks from a bat, you should catch the bat and have it tested for rabies. If you aren’t able to get the bat, you need to go see your provider. There are some risk factors and scenarios they do for an evaluation, but they may recommend the vaccination series for rabies for you.”

According to the CDC, if you have never been vaccinated before, there will be four total doses given following a bite from a bat, which are given on day zero, three, seven, and fourteen. If you have been vaccinated before, you would receive just two doses on day zero and three.
