According to Public Works Director Brayden Bledsoe, work is continuing throughout the City of Monmouth in the next phase of replacing lead service lines as required by the State of Illinois:
“We are hoping to replace approximately 300 to 400 of them. Advanced Plumbing has won that bid. They were the same contractor who did it last year. They replaced in the 150 to 200 range and this year we are going to see significantly more. That project itself, I think we are close to $4 million in funding for that, which was all grant monies provided by the state. That is coming at no cost to the City,” says Bledsoe.
“You may be getting mail regarding permission to get into your home to work on the inside because, of course, when you are getting your service line replaced, they need to come into your basement to hook it up to your interior plumbing. If anybody has any questions on that, feel free to call City Hall,” Bledsoe adds.
