The Sandburg men’s golf team hopes a large freshman class will go a long way toward getting back to the national tournament.
Playing in a highly competitive district and with more stringent qualifying criteria in place, the Chargers saw their string of 13 consecutive years advancing an individual or qualifying as a team for nationals come to an end last season.
Coach Ryan Twaddle’s squad took to the course this season for the first time at Friday’s weather-shortened Highland 36. Freshman Aiden Martin tied for third overall with a 2-over-par 74. The Chargers had two teams in the field, placing eighth and 10th.
It was one of seven events on the fall schedule for Sandburg. The Chargers’ national-qualifying tournament will take place in the spring season.
