The start of another school year means budget discussions for the Board of Educations. United Superintendent Tom Hawkins explains the tentative budget for the district:
“We have a good idea of where we are at, but we do know that we have a lot of mechanical things that just decided they were going to work all summer and all of a sudden stop. So, there is some HVAC repairs that are needed and with all the rain we realized we had some issues with leaks in some of our roofs, so we had to get those repaired. We know that fuel prices are high right now and that affects us as far as transportation. Our transportation costs are up, but other than that, we kind of know where we are going to be sitting this year and we are going to try and put our best foot forward and take a go at it.”
The next United Board of Education meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 10th at 6 pm will begin with a Budget Hearing.
