According to City Administrator Lou Leone, the City of Monmouth has applied for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, or ITEP, Grant to bring walking and biking paths to North Main Street:

“This is a walk path, bike path that goes north of Harlem along Main Street. On the west side, it will be a normal sidewalk. On the east side, that will be a multi-use walk and bike path. The west side will go from Harlem all the way up to 34. On the east side, it will go from Harlem, up to 34, crossover 34 through the west side of Casey’s. Included in this project, we would actually put in a solar lighted crosswalk.”

Looking ahead, Leone envisions adding a walking and biking path from Harlem to the Public Square as funding and grants become available.
