On September 8, 2026, at approximately 8:32 p.m., the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a residence in rural Aledo, near Matherville, regarding a death.
Deputies responded to the residence, where they located a deceased male subject inside the home.
Another resident of the residence has been detained in connection with the incident. At the time of this release, no formal charges have been filed.
The incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as the investigation allows.
There is no indication of an ongoing threat to public safety. At this time, the incident appears to be isolated.
Mercer County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from Mercer County Coroner’s Office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, Coal Valley Ambulance and Matherville Fire Dept.
UPDATE 09/09/2026
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office has charged 31-year-old Terrance Fetter of rural Aledo with homicide. Formal charges are pending.
Fetter remains in the Mercer County Jail pending further order of the court.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Mercer County Coroner’s Office after proper notification of next of kin has been made.
