The Monmouth College Fighting Scots will look to keep things rolling Saturday as they return home to take on Ripon College.
Monmouth picked up their first win of the season last week with a dominant 42-7 win over Cornell. The Scots ran for more than 300 yards as a team, while their defense held Cornell to just one score. Nate Rublick led the way on the ground with 170 yards and four touchdowns.
The win moved Monmouth to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon also enters Saturday at 1-2 after opening conference play with a 30-7 win over Knox College last week.
Head Coach Chad Braun says the Scots know what they need to do to keep things going.
“Continue to run the ball effectively. The run sets up everything for us on offense, and then we’re going to have to make some explosive plays in the pass game because they’re going to give us opportunities when they’re blitzing and coming after you. Defensively, limit the run game, get them behind the sticks, and then be able to pin our ears back, get after the quarterback a little bit. But they got some explosive receivers. We got to do a good job tackling in space. They do a good job getting the ball to them in space, and they can get behind you. We’re going to have to keep everything in front of us and tackle really well.”
Saturday will also be Monmouth’s first game back at April Zorn Memorial Stadium since the season opener against Wartburg, with Community Day and Family Weekend also taking place on campus.
