Richard N. “Dick” Hendrickson, 82, of Galesburg, died suddenly at 9:50 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023, in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born May 23, 1940, in Galesburg, the son of Max and Gladys (White) Hendrickson.  He was raised by his dear grandmother, Grace Hendrickson.  He married Judy K. Nelson on December 30, 1986 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of over 36 years, Judy; a daughter, Kim Bower of Oregon; six grandchildren, Ian (Christina) Smith, Matthew (Jessica) Smith, Tasha Myers, Brittney Bower, Libby Hendrickson, and Nick Hendrickson; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna (Sal) Pontillo of Naples, Florida and Carol (John) LaBates of New Milford, Connecticut.  He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; son, Shawn; and in-laws, George and Rose Nelson.

Dick worked for the City of Galesburg in the Street Department for 26 years before retiring in 1995.  He had worked for Illinois Power early in his working life.  He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958 and attended Western Illinois University for two years.

Dick was a talented drummer who played for several area bands, including The Spotlites and Annie and the Orphans.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, animals, and playing tennis and racquetball.  He won many trophies winning racquetball tournaments.

Dick served in the United States Army.  He was a Military Policeman stationed in Panama.  Dick was an active participant in the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Honor Guard for many years.  He was also active over the years with the American Legion and VFW.

Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate his life, the family will host a gathering at Harley’s Reception Hall on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 2 to 5 p.m., where military honors will be offered at 2:30 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
