Jackson F. “Jack” Stodgel, II, 91 of Galesburg passed away at home on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

Jack was born on May 13, 1931 in Mexico, Missouri. He was the son of Jackson F. and Mae L. (Williams) Stodgel, Jr. He married Lois M. Yelm in 1955. Together they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Lois; son Gerry C. (Lisa) Stodgel of Galesburg; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Jackson F., III and Gregory A. and four siblings.

Jack was a 1949 graduate of Williamsfield High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years and doing a tour in the Korean War. Jack was a foreman for Caterpillar, Inc. retiring after 30 years. He joined the Williamsfield American Legion Post 371 in 1955, he later joined the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 in Galesburg. He was a legion member for over 30 years, serving in the color guard and volunteering for the fish and hamburger fry. Jack loved to farm and ride on his tractor, complete the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper and woodcarving. Jack and Lois would participate in the WIU Farm Progress Show in Macomb for 25 years. After Jack’s retirement, Jack and Lois would “snowbird” in their camper and eventually settle in St. Pete, FL for 25 years. They loved their community and friends there. Most of all, Jack loved spending time with his family.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Williamsfield Cemetery in Williamsfield, with Rev. Terri Shane officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Williamsfield American Legion Post 371 Color Guard. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville is in charge of services.
