Barbara Lou Lane, age 84, of Galesburg, formerly of Knoxville, Oak Run and Victoria, Illinois died at 1:43 A.M. at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, Illinois.
She was born on October 27, 1939 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Maurice and Esther (Samuelson) Sherman of Victoria, Illinois. She graduated from ROVA High School, the class of 1957. She was married 54 years to William John Lane on February 15, 1964. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2018.
Surviving are her children: Steve (Late Linda Lane) Lane of Victoria, Illinois and Susan Smith of Victoria, Illinois; grandchildren: Ian (Christina) Smith of Galesburg, Illinois, Matthew (Jessica) Smith of Muscatine, Iowa, Tyler (Haylee) Smith of Galesburg, Illinois, Daniel (Kadee) Smith of Galesburg, Illinois, Dean (Laura) Lane of Knoxville, Illinois, Sylas Lane of Galesburg, Illinois and John Lane of Galesburg, Illinois; great-grandchildren: Bridgette Witherell, Adelaide Smith, Wesley Smith, Truitt Smith, Declan Smith, and Willene (Lilly) Lane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sister Bette Hulin, daughter-in-law, Linda Lane and her parents.
She worked at the former May Company in Galesburg, Illinois where she met her future husband, Bill. Later, staying at home to raise her children. When they got older, she returned to work at the Oak Run Pro Shop, then the Knox County State’s Attorney, and finally retired as the office manager at Benbow Plumbing and Heating in Galesburg, Illinois.
She was a member of the Victoria United Methodist Church, where she was the organist and pianist and taught Sunday School. Later she was a founding and active member of the Oaks Community Church in rural Dahinda, Illinois where she especially loved participating in the annual Local Mission Week. She taught piano lessons and volunteered at the Rescue Mission in Galesburg, Illinois. She loved attending her grandsons’ plays, band concerts, parades, track meets, basketball, and baseball games, and RARELY missed one!
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. with a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. at the Oaks Community Church at 1868 Congregation Road, Dahinda, Illinois, with Revs. Marty Briney and Dean Lane officiating.
