The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 119 Lincoln Street today, Monday, April 28, 2025, at 12:07 PM. The structure involved is a two-story, wood-framed house. The response included all three fire stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, fire personnel encountered a residential structure with smoke coming from the roof and rear corner of the house. Battalion Chief Matt Cain established command, and the Brooks Street Station fire crew utilized a hand line to extinguish the fire on the outside of the structure. Firefighters subsequently took a handline inside the structure, where they rescued a dog from the first floor. After rescuing the dog, they made their way to the second floor and extinguished the fire. The Central Station fire crew assisted with water supply, search, and overhaul. The Fremont Station fire crew assisted with search and overhaul.
Structural, smoke, and fire damage resulted from the fire. One individual self-evacuated and was transported by Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service to Saint Mary’s Medical Center, where they were treated for injuries and airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
An emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Galesburg Fire Department.
