This coming Monday, May 26th is Memorial Day, a day honoring the men and women serving and those who have served in the United States military. Cheri Stanton with the Monmouth American Legion previews the special services taking place on Monday:
“On Monday the 26th we have our special services. At 9:30 am the Monmouth Municipal Band starts and then Martin Edwards, our Commander, is our Master of Ceremonies. We have Roberta Hasten, she’s the President of the VFW, she will be representing them. Then we have a speaker from the Arsenal and Joyce Clark does a wonderful job with the prayers. Of course, we do our laying of our wreath that we put flowers on for every conflict that we have been involved in. At eleven o’clock we fire in honor of Memorial Day.”
The Memorial Day Service at the Monmouth American Legion can also be heard on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM and online at radiomonmouth.com beginning at 10 am. Before Mondays’ Memorial Day Service, the Honor Guard Firing Squad will travel around to area cemeteries on Sunday the 25th.
