Cathy St. George Selected as Assistant City Manager & Director of Community Engagement for City of Galesburg

The City of Galesburg is pleased to announce the selection of Cathy St. George to fill the position of Assistant City Manager, Director of Community Engagement & Public Information Officer. A long-standing and dedicated member of the City’s administration, St. George brings more than a decade of progressive experience and a deep commitment to public service.

St. George holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), equipping her with a strong foundation in public policy, strategic leadership and organizational management. Prior to joining the City of Galesburg, she held positions at Western Illinois University, University of Illinois Extension, and Western Illinois Economic Development Partnership.

Over the past ten years, St. George has held multiple leadership roles within City Administration, contributing meaningfully to communications, legal services and City management initiatives. Her diverse background and steady advancement reflect her dedication to effective governance and public engagement.

“Cathy is the ideal candidate to fill this position, bringing a unique combination of experience and expertise in both municipal management and communications,” said City Manager Eric Hanson. “She’s consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment and skill, steadily advancing through promotions to this pivotal leadership position.”

As Assistant City Manager, St. George will serve as a key member of the City’s leadership team, contributing to city-wide goals, operational effectiveness, and the management of daily operations. A central responsibility of her new role will be leading the development and execution of a comprehensive citywide communications and engagement strategy, a top-ranked goal in the City’s 2024 strategic plan.
