Three weeks into the school year, Monmouth-Roseville High School Principal Eric Matthews shares the year has been great as two new initiatives are in place:
“Everything seems to be going well. We have a couple new initiatives that we have going on this year. The biggest thing we have is our no cellphone policy, which is going really well. The staff is on board. The kids are on board. I’ve had a lot of good conversations with kids and parents about mental health being better because they don’t have their phones. They are actually getting their homework done, more student engagement overall. They can have them at lunch time, we do allow that. With our open campus, it is their little time to have it. It has been a very good thing that we put into place,” states Matthews.
“The other thing we have going on this year is our attendance teams. One of our school goals is to get our chronic absenteeism down from twenty-nine to twenty-five percent,” Matthews adds.
