As the holiday season draws near, Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer reminds everyone to celebrate safely during each and every gathering with family and friends:

“With any gatherings, if alcohol is consumed, be careful, don’t drink and drive. Have someone give you a ride home, give your keys to somebody else so you are not tempted to drive home. Consuming marijuana can get you a DUI also if you are under the influence the same way that alcohol can. We want everybody to be safe,” reports Chief Switzer.

“If you are out walking, stay on the sidewalks. Be careful when you are crossing the streets. A lot of times a vehicle might not be able to see you even though they have their headlights on. Throw something reflective on your jacket or your coat and just be careful. Stay on the sidewalks and look both ways before you cross the street,” Chief Switzer adds.

Chief Switzer informs extra patrols will be monitoring the roadways for seatbelt violations and driving under the influence.
