Foglesong Second in School History to Post 5800 Points in Decathlon

Monmouth College freshman Kaden Foglesong (Ipava, Illinois) competed in the decathlon for the first time in the 2-day Spring Multi Meet hosted by Central College. Foglesong finished 10th out of 16 competitors with 5803 points which ranks second as a personal best in MC history. He is only the fourth person in Monmouth history to score at least 5000 points in the decathlon and the first since 1986.

On Wednesday he picked up 836 points with an eighth place finish in the 100m race in 11.11 seconds. In the long jump he picked up 657 points in the long jump at 6.32m. Foglesong added 602 points with a fifth-place finish in the shot put as he threw 11.93m. The high jump resulted in 577 points as he tied for eighth with a PR of 1.74m. The final event on day one was the 400m and Foglesong finished 15th in 55.69 seconds to add 571 points. His total score on Wednesday was 3243 points, good for ninth out of 16 competitors.

Thursday started with the 110m hurdles as Foglesong finished seventh in 16.09 seconds to add 723 points. He added another 442 points in the discus with an 11th place finish at 28.87m. In the pole vault, Foglesong cleared 3.85m for a new PR. He tied for eighth and picked up 576 points in the event. He threw the javelin a personal-best 38.57m to finish fourth and pick up 421 points. In the final event, the 1500m, Foglesong picked up 398 points with a 14th place finish in 5:30.19.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Foglesong’s effort ranks 16th nationally and fifth in the Midwest Region … Roger Well, a 3-time NCAA National Qualifier in the event, holds the school record with 6,623 points from the 1985 Drake Relays … He went over 6,000 points seven times in his career and also scored 5,935 at the 1985 NCAA Championships … Dennis Lehr scored 5,516 points in 1982 and Doug Gilmore scored 5,074 in 1986 … The full Fighting Scots track & field teams will compete at Grinnell’s Dick Young Classic on Saturday.
