Galesburg Legion Post 285 hosts Moline Post 246 for a double header on Wednesday night at HT Custer Park in Galesburg. Post 285 has won five of their last six games to improve their overall record to (10-4). Moline got off to a rough start, beginning the season (1-9) before winning four of their next six to get to (5-11). These two teams met in Moline on June 9th, with Galesburg garnering a 14-1 win in the season-opener for both.
Galesburg is led offensively by a potent 1-2 punch at the top of the lineup, in leadoff hitter Tyree Taylor and #2 batter Chance Stewart. Taylor, coming his freshman year at Lawson State Community College in Alabama, is hitting a scorching .510 on the season, with Stewart at .438. They have combined to score 47 of Post 285’s 142 total runs. Stewart is heading into his senior year at United High School this fall. Pitching wise, Galesburg sports a 3.05 team ERA. United graduate and SCC baseball recruit, Ian Leffler has yet to give up an earned run in his 9.2 innings on the mound. Monmouth-Roseville junior-to-be, Keegan Smith sports a 1.75 ERA in his eight innings of work. Both have combined for four of the 10 wins for Post 285.
Moline Post 246 is led on offense by Moline High School graduate and Black Hawk baseball recruit, Emmanuel Lopez’s .415 batting average. Lopez leads Post 246 in several stat categories. Moline’s young roster is mostly made up of players heading into their sophomore or junior years at Moline High School. That youth has reared its head in the pitching department the most, as Post 246 has compiled a team ERA of 5.80.
