Leonard J. Szaltis II, 41, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:56 p.m., Monday, January 30, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. 

He was born on December 21, 1981 in Galesburg IL, the son of John and Beatrice (Zavorski) Szaltis.  Leo was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 2000.  He graduated from St. Ambrose University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and later a Master’s Degree in Business.  He then earned his Master’s Degree in Music from Boston University. 

Leo taught high school music for a time.  He loved to research his family history and genealogy.  Leo was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing music.  He was a published author and enjoyed writing. 

Surviving Leonard are his siblings, Joe Szaltis of Monmouth, IL, Sarah (Lucas) Kulp of Monmouth, IL; his nieces and nephews, Alexis Wooten, Jayden Szaltis, Katelyn Szaltis, Mason Kulp, Vada Kulp, London Kulp; his aunts, Deborah (Pete) O’Bannon, Sharon (Larry) Szaltis, Josie (Rich) Hegarty; several cousins also survive. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one aunt, Elane Stegall, and one uncle, Daniel Szaltis. 

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park.  No visitation hours are planned.  Memorials can be made to the Leonard Szaltis Memorial Fund for his nieces and nephews college education and sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
