Local Hunger Collaborative Digging Deeper into Root Causes of Hunger and Connecting Community Members with Available Resources

Share

For the past year and a half, a group of area agencies, headed by the Galesburg Community Foundation, has met to brainstorm creative solutions to address root causes of hunger through a Hunger Collaborative. Jamieson Community Center Executive Director Nancy Mowen says the core of this collaborative is about connections and networking within the communities:

“There are a lot of agencies that have been a part of that group. We have split into different segments, but I think the core of it is that there are some gaps in resources available and not everyone is connected. It is important that people know resources that are available in their communities and that they utilize those resources that can help get them to where they want to be. From my perspective, it is about connection and network.”

The Hunger Collaborative, or Community Connections, is available for residents in Knox and Warren Counties. Director Mowen shared community members have numerous organizations to turn to, whether it is at Jamieson Community Center, the FISH Food Pantry, Western Illinois Regional Council, the Galesburg Community Foundation, public transportation, and several others.
