Joyce Ann Stevens, 64, of Gilson, Illinois, died at 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born October 21, 1958 in Galesburg, the daughter of Walter E. and Lois M. (Young) Johnson. Joyce graduated from AlWood High school in 1976. She worked for nine years as a retail associate for Farm King. Joyce was married to Danny C. Stevens on May 29, 1999 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2022.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Emily Johnson of Gilson and Tressa (fiancé, Travis Clayton) Johnson of Abingdon, Illinois; one step-daughter, Ashley (Phil) Wellenkamp of Virginia, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Kelly Clayton and Ivan Clayton. She is also survived by four sisters: Mary (Bill) Rustemeyer of Normal, Illinois, Karen (Mike) Tuthill of Knoxville, Illinois, Sue Simpson of Rio, Illinois, and Carol (Jurgen) Kukuk of Galesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She loved listening to classic country oldies and also enjoyed reading, playing darts, and spending quality time with her family. Joyce will be lovingly remembered as a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She had a contagious smile that could light up an entire room, especially when she saw her grandkids, nieces, or nephews. Joyce was a truly wonderful person and her presence will forever be deeply missed.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the family. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
