Richard “Dick” L.  Huckabey, 84, of Kirkwood, IL passed away at 8:35 am, Thursday, May 25, 2023, at his Home.

Dick was born March 25, 1939 in Rushville, IL the son of Loren “Bud” and Helen (Douglas) Huckabey.  He was raised and educated in Rushville and later Macomb, where he graduated from Macomb High School in 1957.  While at Macomb High School, Dick was the first freshman to start on the varsity baseball team where he received 4 varsity letters.

Following graduation Dick enlisted in the United States Navy for 4 ½ years from 1957-1961 serving in the aviation department.

Dick married Carol Fainter in Monmouth, IL on July 2, 1966 and she survives.

Dick worked in construction.  He worked for Galesburg Construction and Lundeen Construction, working on several other union construction projects in the area.

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, Kirkwood Lions Club, a 46-year member of the Kirkwood A. Lincoln Masonic Lodge 518 A.F. & A.M., Monmouth Jaycees, Young’s Lake in Kirkwood and the Carpenters Union Local #583. He was also a member of several local bowling leagues, coached Kirkwood softball, was active in Boy Scouts, enjoyed animals and doing crafts.  His passion was collecting pocket knives.   

Survivors include his wife, Carol Huckabey of Kirkwood; his children, Carrie Huckabey of Monmouth, IL and Dustin (Keli) Huckabey of Kirkwood; his grandchildren, Dawson Huckabey and Emmerie Huckabey; his brothers, Don (Donna) Huckabey and John (Marsha) Huckabey both of Macomb, IL; sisters, Jane (Mick) Patterson of Rushville, IL and Peggy (Jon) Blevins of Bentonville, AR; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Also surviving are his two cats, Mama Kitty and Snowball.

He was preceded in death are his parents; sister, Judy (Roger) Wilson and brother-in-law, John (Hazel) Fainter.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood.  Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 am Saturday morning at the church.  Memorials may be given to Richard Huckabey Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home.
