Annual Halfway to Freezing for Food This Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday

Share

The three-day Halfway to Freezing for Food event will take place this Wednesday, June 7th through Friday, June 9th at Save A Lot Food Stores in Monmouth from 10 am to 2 pm each day, benefiting the Roseville Helping Hands Food Pantry and the Jamieson Community Center. Executive Director Nancy Mowen shares that the need for food is dire as a record number of individuals are visiting the pantry:

“Our numbers are like I have never seen them. We had 461 visits to our pantry last month. I think our previous high was 290. There were more than 1,400 people served. Food-wise, anything is welcome, just think staples, that is what we are trying to provide because we have a lot of families coming through and we just want to make sure that we can provide the basics.”

The Recharge Teen Center will be on-hand selling lemonade shakeups and the Tri-County Cattlemen will be grilling on Wednesday from 11 to 1 pm, shares Secretary Gayle Baker:

“We are just excited to support our local food pantries. We are going to be cooking. Instead of you coming and bringing us food, you are going to come and buy yourself lunch and by buying yourself lunch, you will be supporting Halfway to Freezing for Food. Our proceeds will go back to be donated to the food pantries. We are serving ribeyes for $10 and then we will also have hamburgers. We will serve water and we will also have some chips there to complete your meal.”

Items that are currently in need at the Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry include cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, corn, mixed vegetables, tomato sauce, canned fruit, rice, and canned chicken and tuna.
