Show Prep Is More Than The Day Of The Show; Aubrey Killey Gives Insights Into Her Show Day Success

When it comes to livestock shows, show prep doesn’t just start the morning of the fair says swine exhibitor Aubrey Killey.

“Every single morning and night they’re getting walked and they get about 15 to 30 minutes each of me walking around the yard to try to train them to get like their heads up and walk at the perfect pace so that when they go to the show ring they know exactly what to do,” said Killey.

This year, Killey is trying her hand at the Barrow and Gilt show at the Knox County Fair. Killey shows in jackpots and county fairs all around Illinois to get as much exposure as possible before ending the season at the Illinois State Fair.

“A fun fact about us is we do not buy anything, everything that I show is something we raised and so to me anytime I win something it makes it even more special,” said Killey. “Knowing that I got to go through each step with my dad and that we did it all ourselves.”

Killey adds that a goal she has for herself is to make it to the Grand Champion Gilt Drive at the Illinois State Fair, following in her dad’s footsteps.
