Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 26th, 2023:

​The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Jake Steele. Jake filled up the stat sheet all last week in the Titan’s runner-up finish at the Orion 10 & 32 Tip-Off Classic. He averaged 8.5 points and 4 rebounds a game. Jake’s point guard play, including only two total turnovers in four games, earned him a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Derrick Sargeant. Derrick was solid across the board in his first week of the season. At the ROWVA/Williamsfield Thanksgiving Tournament, he averaged over 10 points and 2.5 steals a game, also making five, 3-pointers. Derrick was also lights-out from the free throw line, making 15 of his 17 attempts.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Kyle Lafary. Kyle got his year off to a solid start at the season-opening ROWVA/Williamsfield Thanksgiving Tournament. He tied for the team lead in scoring for five games, while making six, 3-pointers. Kyle was more than solid from the free throw line, missing only one of the eight attempts.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Gino Williams. Gino’s great week helped the Streaks get off to a (3-1) start to the season. He was an even bigger help in two of those wins at the Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament. Gino posted a career-high 31 points in a win over Chicago Ogden International and 14 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Chicago Wells.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior boys bowler, Braden Hagerty. Braden had one of the best days of his bowling career at the Oregon Invite. He rolled a six-game score of 1123 for an average of 187 a game. Even more impressive, Braden posted two single-game scores of 235 among those six games.
