Mrs. Judy J. Hazen, 78, of Altona, Illinois passed away at 10:14 am Sunday, March 3, 2024, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Judy was born July 18, 1945, in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of Howard W. and Margaret (Janes) Collinson. She married Gary Dean Hazen on November 7, 1965, in Galesburg.

Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Gary of Altona; her son Mark (Melissa) Hazen of Altona and six grandchildren, Bri, Bryce and Brady Hazen, Elizabeth, Abby, and Carli Stowe. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Main.

Judy graduated from ROVA in 1964, married Gary in 1965 and began working with her husband on the farm, caring for the animals. Judy enjoyed her role as a farm wife and loved to be home raising her son, Mark. She loved supporting her six grandchildren in all their activities. Judy was a member of the Kumknous Club in the Altona area.

Judy helped with many Christmas programs scenes and costumes. She helped with the art classes and tutoring at the school. Judy also spent many hours helping at the Ransom Memorial Public Library and served on the board. She loved all animals but especially loved her horses when she was growing up and later in life, her wiener dogs, Lily, Chopper, Duke and Scooter.

Judy’s wishes were to be cremated. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 am Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Oneida Cemetery with Pastor Scott Cramer officiating. Memorials may be offered to the Kewanee Humane Society, Altona Historical Society or the Altona Ransom Memorial Public Library, PO Box 82, Altona, Illinois 61414.
