This past weekend marked competition in the unofficial indoor high school track and field championships in Illinois, as the Illinois Prep Top Times meet was held on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. Many Monmouth-area schools were well represented at the meet. In class 1A on Friday, United’s Reece Bertelsen took 5th place in the 60 meter dash, while the Red Storm 4×200 and 4×400 meter relay teams both took second place. Bertelsen, Katie and Rosie Flynn, and Emerick Huston comprised the 4×200 team while Alexa Anderson joined Bertelsen and the Flynns in the 4×400. From Abingdon-Avon high school, sophomore Carter Stroot came home with a 6th place finish in the 200 meter dash, and a 9th place finish in the 400 meter dash.

Moving to class 2A on Saturday, Monmouth-Roseville senior Carmyn Huston took home another metal to add to her track career. She finished in 2nd in the shotput with a throw of 39 feet 3 inches. That throw trailed only Geneseo’s Olivia Marshall who threw a staggering 44 feet 11 inches to capture first place.

Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show this morning, Monmouth-Roseville High School Athletic Director Jeremy Adolphson discussed the accomplishment for Carmyn to kick off the 2024 spring track season.

The Illinois Prep Top Times Meet ends the indoor track season. Monmouth-Roseville track’s next meet is scheduled for Thursday in Macomb. United will open their outdoor track and field season with a home meet on Thursday. A-Town heads to the Wethersfield Outdoor Open on April 1st.
