Watch For Fraudulent Electronic Activity

Share

McDonough County Sheriff Nick Petitgout reports numerous fraud cases going on throughout the State of Illinois and McDonough County.

The scammers are hacking into individuals’ computers and identifying themselves as a “representative” with Microsoft. The “representatives” aka scammers are convincing the victims to withdraw money from their bank account and turn the money over to them through whatever means possible (Cash App, Bitcoin, and other cash transfer applications)

This investigation is ongoing, and we are working diligently with local and state agencies to identify the suspects. Please use caution with electronic fraudulent activity and please report any suspicions to your local agency.
