Watch Out for Scams this Tax Season!

Share

As another tax season has arrived, Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer reminds taxpayers to be on the lookout for those IRS scam letters:

“They will be claiming that you will be getting a big refund or that you need to contact them because there is a problem, a prize or a problem, it always starts there when it comes to a scam, so be on the lookout for them. You will see them in emails, you will see them in letterheads that come in the mail. Just note that the government is not going to reach out to you and tell you that. When you do your taxes, at that point in time you might tell your tax provider that you did receive a letter and they can keep an eye out for it, but they will probably tell you it is fake, it is false, it’s a scam.”

Furthermore, as the weather starts to warm back up, door-to-door salesmen will be out and about. Investigator Kramer advises not answering the door and definitely do not let them inside your homes.
