Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 14, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior softball player, Molly McVey. Molly busted out in a big way in a blowout win over Bushnell-Prairie City. She went 3-for-3 at the plate and blasted her first home run of the season in the victory. Molly showed some speed as well, swiping two bases on the day.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Carter Rothzen. Carter tore the cover off the ball to help the Heat get a double header sweep of West Central at Community Field in Burlington. In the two games, he went 4-for-5, scoring four runs and driving in a total of five runs. Carter also banged out three doubles, a stat in which he leads the team for the season.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman softball player, Miley Stimpson. Miley pitched her first varsity no-hitter in a Lincoln Trail Conference win over United. For the week, she pitched a total of 11 innings, giving up just one hit, no runs and struck out 15 batters. Miley also pitched in at the plate, as well, hitting .333 for the week.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Tyree Taylor. Tyree had at least one hit in all four games last week. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, he was on base ten of the twenty times he came to the plate. Besides scoring five runs, Tyree also knocked in four runs, helping the Streaks to a (3-1) record for the week.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Asa Stegall. In two meets last week, Asa finished no worse than second place in four hurdle events. In the highly competitive Monmouth-Roseville Invite, he was 2nd in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdle races. He was even better at the Orion Invitational, crossing the finish line first in both events.
