Local Farmers Cultivating Hope with the OSF HealthCare Foundation

With the mission of serving the community with the greatest care and love, the OSF HealthCare Foundation serves to meet that goal through donors, volunteers, fundraising, and spreading awareness. Major Gifts Officer Tyler Sherwood shares one way in being a part of that mission is through their Bushels of Hope program:

“We work directly with grain elevators to give farmers an easy option of donating bushels if they see fit. This is a great opportunity for donors who are actively engaging in farming on a cash basis. Significant tax savings can be found through donating grain directly to a charitable organization. It is also possible to deduct the production costs associated with growing the donated grain, which can result in saving self-employment tax, federal and state income tax. Gifts of grain may eliminate or avoid taxes for the farmer while retaining 100 percent of the value for a charity like OSF HealthCare. Truly this is a win-win situation for all parties and something that we are really excited about rolling out.”

Donations can be allocated to areas of the greatest need, cancer services, pediatrics, mental health, along with others.
