Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 19, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Carmyn Huston. Carmyn brought home two medals from the IHSA class 2A state finals in Charleston. She placed 2nd in the shot put and 8th in a loaded discus field. That was the 3rd and 4th state finals medals in Carmyn’s 3-year high school career.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Reece Bertelsen. What a weekend at the class 1A state finals in Charleston for Reece. She brought home an individual medal for placing 8th in the 200 meter dash and then ran a leg on three medal-winning relay teams, giving her an amazing total of 10 career state finals medals. Reece’s 4×200 meter relay team set a new all-time state finals record.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman baseball player, Cooper Gibb. Lincoln Trail Conference coaches rewarded Cooper with a spot on the All-West Division First team. He led the Heat in home runs and tied for the team lead in stolen bases. Cooper’s performance in the classroom also earned him a spot on the Lincoln Trail Conferenc All-Academic Team, as well.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Syriah Boyd. Syriah wrapped up an awesome high school track career by bringing four medals back to Galesburg from the IHSA class 2A state finals. She was 3rd in the 400, 4th in the 200 and 6th in the 100 meter events. Syriah also ran a leg on the 7th place 4×400 meter relay team.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Tyler Condreay. Tyler qualfied himself for three events at the IHSA class 1A state finals in Charleston. He placed 4th in the 100 meter dash, 2nd in the long jump and was a part of the 2nd place 4×200 meter relay team. Earlier this season, he was 2nd in each of those sames events at the Lincoln Trail Conference championship.
