Sheryl L. Gustafson, 79, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 12:40 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. 

She was born on May 21, 1945 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Henry and Jessie Mae (Lavender) Blevins.  Sheryl was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1963.  She later graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

Sheryl married Fred Gustafson on July 9, 1967 in Monmouth, IL at the First Lutheran Church.  They celebrated 57 years of marriage together.   

Sheryl taught in the Monmouth Public School District at Harding and Willits Elementary Schools until her retirement.  She made a positive difference for thousands of students during her career.  Sheryl was known to send greeting cards to friends and family on their birthdays and holidays.  Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter. 

Surviving Sheryl is her husband, Fred Gustafson of Monmouth, IL; two daughters, Melissa (Evan) Gustafson-Hinds of O’Fallon, IL, Stephanie Gustafson of Davenport, IA; one granddaughter, Evelyn Hinds of O’Fallon, IL; and one sister, Sheila Ortery of Clinton, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Richard Blevins.

A Gathering of Family & Friends will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials can be made to the Sheryl Gustafson Memorial Fund and can be sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
