John W “Billy” Abbott Jr., of Alexis Il passed away peacefully, in his home, surrounded by family and loved ones, August 22, 2024 after a valiant battle against cancer. Billy was born Feb 5, 1959 to John W “Bill” Abbott and Sonya Higham Abbott in Monmouth, Il. He was raised in Monmouth and the surrounding area. He was the oldest of four children. In his teen years his family moved to  Round Lake, Il where he met his love of over 48 years, Kathryn ‘Kathy” Bentcliff. Billy and Kathy were married Nov 20, 1976 in Round Lake, IL. Eventually they returned to this area, settling in Alexis Il. Together they raised three children. Billy had worked as an independent carpet installer for many local firms. He enjoyed sharing this skill with his son. He also had many hobbies over his lifetime. They changed just as he did, from a 70s hippie to a 90s cowboy. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, travel and pool nights in his poolroom. In his later years he became a car enthusiast. Most days he could be found detailing his car, installing chrome or at a car show. He was known by many Nicknames over the years,  Papa, Uncle Elvis, Grandpa fix it, and “That guy with the chrome”. Although his time was short, his life and the memories of him are huge.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children, Melissa M Johnson and Mike of Alexis. John W Abbott III and Tammy of Wataga, IL. Becky L Knott and Matt of Galesburg, Il. Parents John W “Bill” Abbott and Sonya Higham Abbott  of Monmouth. Sisters, Pam Thomas, and Jim of Aledo Il, Debby Pulse and Jim of Monmouth, and brother, Mike Abbott and Robin of Monmouth. Nine Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth Il on Wed August 28th. 2024, with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM and funeral service immediately after at 2:00 PM. Internment at Monmouth Cemetery. Fellowship will be provided by FCC Christian Church,  Monmouth Il, The family would invite you to join them there following internment.
